The beautiful Paddys River dam is a peaceful and scenic spot, and a popular attraction in the heart of the alpine ash forests of the Bago Plateau. In summer, it's a great place to go fishing or splash around in the waters of the Dam, and a year-round great place to camp and relax. It was originally constructed as a source of water for gold mining activities in the late 1800s.

Please note that due to the small size of the dam only ‘passive water activities’ are permitted, such as kayaking, swimming, recreational fishing and use of only small electric motored boats, due to the small size of the dam. No powerboats, jet skis or water-skiing.

Dogs in state forests

For many people, taking their dog on a holiday with them can be quite a challenge.

Did you know that your canine friend is welcome in ALL state forests across NSW?

Just a few things to remember:

  • Your dog must be under your control at ALL times
  • In Cumberland State Forest dogs must be on a leash at ALL times
  • Always pick up after your dog
  • Ensure you pack enough food and water for your dog on long forest trips
  • Respect other campers who don’t have dogs and keep noise to a minimum

Also, many State forests are adjacent to National Parks, where dogs are prohibited, so make sure you are aware to stay within a State forest while holidaying with your dog.
